A neighbor forwarded me an email earlier this week about Richardo Avila, who made a name for himself in Dallas through the popular Tex-Mex restaurant Avila’s Restaurant on Maple, and then its offshoot, Mextopia, on Greenville.

You may or may not remember, but years ago family drama caused Richardo Avila to leave Avila’s Restaurant and open Mextopia on Greenville, which didn’t make it through Greenville’s recent transition.

Oh yeahh… whatever happened with that guy?

Well, according to the aforementioned email, he moved to Hawaii in May to open a bed and breakfast, called AlohaHola B&B Retreat Center. With the help of a reality TV show (I have no idea which one, but it’s supposed to air sometime in November or December), he was able to find the perfect spot — complete with an acre of lush, produce-filled landscape, a Zen garden, yoga classes, a lava rock shower and easy access to hiking trails.

So if you want some Richardo Avila Tex-Mex in the near future, looks like you have to go to Hawaii to get it.
