Only one of the three DISD trustee races was definitely decided during Tuesday’s election. Edwin Flores won more than 50 percent of the votes in his district, so he’ll be returning to office for another three and a half years.

But to retain her seat, Leigh Ann Ellis will face a runoff with Bruce Parrott Dec. 8, and Bernadette Nutall and Sally Cain will compete to take over Ron Price’s seat. To view election results by vote, click here to visit the Dallas County election site.

The most important take-away: Essentially, no one voted. For example, Parrott led Ellis by 315 votes, but he only had 1,525 votes, and only 4,153 voters showed up. And the other two candidates in the race, Bea Martinez and Penny Anderly, received 1,418 votes — nearly more than Parrott received. So this race is clearly up for grabs among the 2,000 or so people who will likely turn out for the run off, conveniently scheduled on a Tuesday during the middle of the holiday season.

It’s just a shame that so many of the people who spent so much time bad-mouthing DISD last fall, and year-round in general, always seem to be too busy to show up and make a difference at the ballot box. There’s a clear difference between Parrott and Ellis, and the 100 or so voters who attended the debates between them know that.
