The Pocket Sandwich Theatre presents a September full of fun and frivolity with two comedy acts. “The Naked Truth…In Leather” with stand-up comic Leann Barry premieres a new show on Sept. 6. Seating, food and beverage begins at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $9 and the show is rated “R.” The Village Idiots, Dallas’ all-improvisational comedy troupe, presents “Comedy For Adults” beginning Sept. 15 and running through October 7. DOT’S Annual Gala is set for Saturday, September 9. The group, which offers aid to the terminally ill, is honored to present an evening with Dionne Warwick. This top-drawer event will be held at the Santa Fe Hotel, Central Expressway and Mockingbird. For information call 214-826-4099.

Celestial Rhythm Celebrations, an informal not-for-profit movement in Dallas, is committed to popularizing seasonal observances; CRC events are free, donations are appreciated and volunteers always needed. Woodrow Open Houses. The school, 100 S. Glasgow, will hold a series of community open houses on Sept. 6 and continuing on the first Wednesday of the month, September-November and February-April. Woodrow Homecoming. The Parade and Community Pep Rally will be held this year on Sept. 27. The parade leaves the school parking lot, 100 S. Bishop Lynch High School has received a million dollar gift from The Catholic Foundation to help launch Phase II of their ongoing capital campaign. It is only the third time in the Foundation’s history to give a gift of this size. Funds will be used to build the Catholic Foundation Performing Arts Center, which will include a performance hall, black box theater, band and choir practice facilities, a chapel and a food court.

Woodrow Student Jose Arvizu spent this past summer working in Southwestern Medical School’s research laboratories. He was one of 12 area high school students selected for the STARS Summer Research Program 2000. Arvizu plans to become a doctor, and was recommended for the program by Woodrow teacher Tanya Tovar.

SMU Neighborhood Graduates. More than 1,700 students at SMU received degrees at the 85th annual commencement in May, including 31 from Lakewood. Bock to the Future. Lakewood resident Lindsay Bock, a Shelton High School graduate, has been awarded an athletic scholarship to play soccer at St. Edward’s University in Austin. Her sister, Courtney Bock, recently completed her dance degree from Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., and will continue her studies at Antioch New England School in Dance Movement Therapy. Parents are Howard and Cyndi Bock of Lakewood.

The Girl Scouts of Tejas Council announced the council’s 2000 Awards and Recognitions. Local recipients were Jan Davis and Grace Flusche for 10 years of service; Katie Crumby and Susan Morrison for Outstanding Leader; and Kathryn Townsend for Outstanding Volunteer.
