Hip Chixs is sold exclusively at the Blues Jean Bar in Snyder Plaza. Carreker and Miller are hosting a party there starting at 6:30 tonight, and they’ll be in the store all day Saturday, Aug. 6, for a trunk show.

The jeans, which cost $181, come in two washes, a light one and a dark one, and two cuts — the boot-cut “Skinny Bootie” and the skinny jean “Straight and Narrow”. Each pair has the line’s signature red rivet and a tiny red tag at the hem. But their design is simple and clean.

“Of course this is Texas, and it’s so hot. So our goal was to find the perfect fabric for Texas,” Miller says.

Miller, who owns about 70 pairs of jeans, says she started dreaming about creating a denim line when she was in college at Baylor University, where she was sorority sisters with Carreker.

She finally decided to go for it about three and a half years ago, and she got Carreker, who is a fashion stylist, on board. They flew to Los Angeles with a few leads and figured out the fashion manufacturing business by trial and error. But they say they were lucky at every step, quickly finding a mentor in L.A. and meeting their website designers during an airport layover.

The economy had just hit a low spot when they started working on the line, and that worked to their advantage.

“Our minimums were so small, but people were willing to take our business because they were willing to take anything,” Carreker says.

The business partners say their jeans are comfortable and slimming, and they’re so simple that they’re wearable for years without going out of style.

“It’s your everyday jean because it’s so comfortable,” Miller says.
