The first Greater East Dallas Small Business Award will be given by the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce in January.

The awards will recognize people and businesses involved in the community. Categories of the awards are growth, community contribution and new business. First, second and third places will be presented in each category.

The award of growth is for an East Dallas company with the greatest percentage increase in revenues and positive net earnings for the prior three years. The company must have a minimum of $250,000 in gross revenue and no more than $10,000,000 as a maximum gross revenue.

The award for community contribution will be presented to a company that provides meaningful and substantial community contributions. Overall commitment, generosity, care and the nurturing of our neighborhoods will be considered.

The new business award will be presented to a company that has been in business three years or less and has provided both a meaningful contribution to East Dallas and shown viability and growth.

Nominations must be submitted by members of the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce to the chamber office by Nov. 30.

CHAMBER OFFICE MOVES: The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce office moved to First Interstate Bank/Lakewood. The office is in the West lobby level, adjacent to the Safety Deposit area. The phone number, 827-8921, is the same.

CLEMENTS HONORED: Dick Clements, owner of Clements Realtors, was recognized at a Lakewood Chamber of Commerce luncheon for his work in sponsoring 21 new Chamber members. His name was added to the Chamber Life Membership plaque.

NEW DIRECTOR: Penelope Welch, a Lake Highlands resident, recently accepted the program director position with John B. Cummings Co., a national fund-raising agency. She is a member of the Community Leaders Forum and Lake Highlands Band Club Board.

NEW MASSAGE THERAPIST: Helene A. Rose, a registered massage therapist, is now part of the staff at Metrocrest Associates Massage Therapy, located at 10216 Garland Road.

OWNERSHIP CHANGE: Audelia Heights Apartments, located at 9842 Audelia Road, was recently purchased by Charter Properties III. The complex was renamed Crest Apartments and will have massive renovations, including parking lot repairs and new roofs, paint and siding. Each apartment will also be renovated.

NEW LOCATION: Larry Sewell’s State Farm Insurance Agency has moved to the First Interstate Bank building at 6301 Gaston, Suite 440. The agency’s phone number, 824-4187, is still the same.

ART CLASSES: Children, teenagers and adults interested in art can register for classes at the Lakewood Arts Academy. The academy, which is owned by Tammy Gore, opened last February and offers a full curriculum of painting, drawing and sculpture. For information, call 827-1222.
