Hill, who graduated from Woodrow Wilson, died in July 2021 at home in Houston; he was 72. Hill, who was born Joe Michael Hill, was among the individuals honored in a tribute at the Grammy Awards, the annual ceremony honoring achievements in the music industry.

After a short video to remember Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, artists sang pieces by Stephen Sondheim as photos of people in the music industry who have died over the past year appeared on the screens.

Other individuals who were recognized include Michael Nesmith of The Monkees, Charile Watts of The Rolling Stones and Meat Loaf, among others.

When Hill’s photo appeared on the screen, Cynthia Erivo was singing “Send In The Clowns” and Leslie Odom Jr. was singing “Not A Day Goes By.”

ZZ Top was nominated for the “Best Rock Performance By A Duo or Group With Vocal” for the Eliminator album in the 26th annual Grammy Awards. The band was nominated for the same award in the 29th-annual ceremony for the Afterburner album. Last year, That Little Ol’ Band From Texas was nominated for “Best Music Film.”

But the band has never won a Grammy.
