The driver of a blue Chevrolet Camaro was traveling north near the 7100 block of E. Grand Avenue around 9:57 p.m. Aug. 5.

According to the Dallas Police Department, the vehicle “failed to maintain a single lane, crossed over the left curb and entered the grass median.” The vehicle hit a tree and then collided with a light pole on the driver’s door.

The Camaro caught fire, and the driver died at the scene.

As of publication, the driver has not been identified.

The spot where the crash occurred is included in an upcoming planning and conceptual engineering study. The North Central Texas Council of Governments has awarded funding to complete the study, which will identify improvements to Grand Avenue between the Gaston-Garland-Grand intersection and Interstate 30. Here are more details about the project:

“This project will include travel forecasts, travel modeling, context sensitive design and system planning principles for this east Dallas neighborhood. This project will also include management of an update to the prior Garland Road Vision Study by NCTCOG in 2010 that extended from the Dallas/Garland City limits (IH 635) to Garland Road/Gaston Avenue.”
