“The gala is a celebration of life and our American heritage,” says Jim Davis, executive director of DOT.  “The legendary Lee Greenwood is the only entertainer who could have performed for us this year. Not only because of his signature hit, “God Bless the ,” but also because of his ongoing support of Americans through his civic and humanitarian involvement.”

This year marks the 12th annual gala, which is themed “Let Freedom Ring.” DOT, a non-church related, non-profit organization, helps terminally ill children, women and men by helping them live and die with dignity. In addition to its store at the corner of Skillman and Live Oak, DOT provides a food pantry, clothing bank, assistance with household goods, medical bills, housing, special wishes and sometimes funeral assistance. DOT also established and funds transportation for Parkland Hospital ’s geriatrics patients.

On Saturday, Sept. 11, “Let Freedom Ring” will begin at 7 p.m. with a cocktail hour and entertainment by Linda Petty and the Main Event, followed by a sit-down dinner, live and silent auction and a live performance by Greenwood.

The winner of a 2004 Durango SLT, donated by Prestige Dodge, will be announced at the end of the evening. Raffle tickets are $100 each, with only 1,000 tickets being sold. Tickets to the gala are $150.
