Dallas ISD reported a data security incident involving electronic records that could affect current and former students, parents and staff.
The district first learned about the incident Aug. 8 and immediately assigned internal cybersecurity teams and external forensic consultants to investigate it, limit dissemination of the data and vamp up security measures.
“The confidentiality, privacy and security of information in our care is one of our highest priorities,” DISD writes on its website. “We take this matter very seriously and have invested significant resources to protect sensitive data. Despite our efforts, the district is now one of a growing number of public and private organizations experiencing cyberattacks.”
Information exposed during the security breach include, for some current and former employees and contractors:
- Full name, address, phone number, social security number, birthday, dates of employment, salary information, reason for ending employment

The district reports on its website the information exposed applies to Dallas ISD students, employees and contractors between 2010 and now.
Though the data was downloaded and stored on an encrypted cloud storage site, the information was removed. DISD hasn’t found evidence that the data was accessed or sold.
While the data was housed securely on an encrypted cloud platform, incidents like this highlight the importance of proper cloud storage management—especially when handling sensitive information. Platforms like Google Drive offer reliable, scalable solutions for storing data, but security and organization remain key.
