Dallas ISD officials released additional details about its re-entry plan this fall, but they didn’t say if in-person instruction would be offered when classes start Sept. 8.

Superintendent Michael Hinojosa said at a board of trustees meeting Thursday that the district would adhere to the county’s recommendation when it is announced sometime next week.

How schools will look next fall will largely be determined by campus administrators once they know how many teachers and students wish to return. The deadline for teachers is Aug. 21, and the deadline for parents is Aug. 25.

If in-person instruction is allowed, students must wear face masks all day and cannot substitute them for face shields as the district previously communicated.

For remote learners, district officials hope to connect students with a teacher at least once a day. Parents will be informed when their children will meet with a teacher and when they will have time for independent learning.

For a hybrid model, teachers up to eighth grade will be expected to balance responsibilities for on-campus and distance learners. High-schoolers, however, will attend online classes three days a week and in-person classes two days a week.

In case of a teacher shortage, the district may call in substitutes or ask administrators with teaching credentials to fill in the gaps.
