Lakewood resident Willis Winters is synonymous with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, which has sorely missed him since late December when a lung infection hospitalized him. Winters is no longer in the ICU, but according to a circulating email, has lost 20 pounds and likely will be in the hospital another week or two before he can return home.

The email is asking people who know and love Winters to send get well cards to lift his spirits. Beyond being ubiquitous as the park department’s assistant director of planning, design and construction, Winters also is an award-winning author, historian and architect who regularly makes presentations on our city’s more interesting sites, such as Fair Park.
