The Creative Arts Center of Dallas received a $200,000 grant for improvements from the City of Dallas.
With construction beginning in the spring, the center will remodel and expand existing office space and a break room, build two ADA-compliant restrooms and make the entrance more inviting. The facility is housed in the historic Bayles Elementary School, which was built by the Works Progress Administration during the The Great Depression.
“To say that we are thrilled to have the support of the Office of Cultural Affairs is an understatement,” said Diana Pollak, CAC’s Executive Director in a press release. “This was such a vote of confidence on the part of the City of Dallas that we are humbled. It’s the largest grant we have ever received over our 50-year history.”
The Creative Arts Center of Dallas offers classes in sculpture, ceramics, paper making and other media as well as exhibitions and special events. Welder Cynthia Daniel, featured in October’s East Dallas Advocate, attributes the beginning of her welding career to the center.
