Dallas is three days into its lockdown, and neighbors already have too much time on their hands. East Dallas artists have passed the time creating new parody songs that seem to be spreading as fast as the virus itself.
1. “Grandma Got Run Over by Corona” by Randy Brooks
Randy Brooks, a longtime neighborhood resident, wrote the holiday classic “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.” In 40 years, he’s never been tempted to parody his own lyrics — until now.
“Desperate times call for desperate measures, and if I don’t do it, someone else will,” Brooks said on YouTube. “Here you go, with apologies to me.”
The tragic tale chronicles Grandma’s doomed journey from Shanghai to her untimely passing and the sudden death of poor Grandpa’s 401(k) with a little dark humor.

2. “Toilet Paper Song” by Lee Scammel
Neighborhood crooner Lee Scammel is perhaps best known for his tutorial on Christmas tree walking, but his newest song has the potential to be his greatest hit yet.
