The fire started just before 6:45 a.m. at the Birchbrook II Condominiums, located at 5076 Matilda St. near the intersection of Greenville Avenue and Lovers Lane, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.

When firefighters arrived at the two-story complex, they saw smoke and flames coming from one of the buildings. They extinguished the fire in about an hour. Two units were damaged by fire, and another two were damaged by smoke and water, Evans said.

Investigators think the fire began in a condo on the second floor and spread into the attic. However, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Two people were in the condo when the fire started, and both escaped. The remaining residents in the complex evacuated by the time firefighters arrived.

One person in the unit where the fire started suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Seven other people were displaced and are receiving help from the American Red Cross.
