Jonathan’s Place, an emergency shelter for abused and neglected children, recently received a $10,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation. The grant will help provide housing, food, clothing, medical exams, and educational assessments for children there.

Lakewood Volunteers in Patrol (VIP) needs neighbors to join the program. While on patrol, volunteers observe and report suspicious behavior to the Dallas Police. The program is non-confrontational in nature. It requires a minimum of two hours a week tailored to each volunteer’s schedule. Casa de Vida, a respite care program for caregivers of early onset Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, is offered weekly on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m at NorthPark Presbyterian Church, 9555 N. Central Expressway. It’s strictly a social program, with no medications or health care administered. Activities include morning snacks, exercise, bingo, crafts and music. The Woodrow Wilson High School PTA is seeking alumni donations for college scholarships. Seniors who have not received more than $5,000 from other scholarship sources will be eligible for this PTA scholarship. The Exchange Club of East Dallas distributed more than 30,000 books donated by Half Price Books to several East Dallas schools.
