Screen Shot 2014-09-18 at 11.43.33 AMThe day is here. Sept. 18 is North Texas Giving Day.

Last year, North Texas Giving Day, which is hosted by the Communities Foundation of Texas, slammed out a national record with 75,000 donations totaling $25.2 million, and — naturally — it hopes to outdo itself today.

This year there are 18 hours to donate, from 6 a.m. to midnight, to more than 1,500 certified nonprofits listed on the website www.NorthTexasGivingDay.org. All donations between $25 and $50,000 will receive bonus funds.

Until 2 p.m., there’s an event at Communities Foundation of Texas, right across Central at 5500 Caruth Haven. There will be food trucks, performances, donation stations and volunteer activities.

Also, this year features the Inaugural North Texas Giving Day Kids Give, in which kids can participate by bringing their loose change, food cans and Goodwill donations, plus their will to volunteer at several kids-oriented volunteer booths.

There are plenty of East Dallas organizations on the list to donate to. Comment your favorites!
