The City of Dallas is suing a Texaco in Far East Dallas for excessive drug use and crime that has taken place on the property.

City officials say the convenience store in the 11700 block of Ferguson Road is a “common nuisance,” the Dallas Morning News reports. In the lawsuit filed Monday, the City asked the judge to take action because the property owner has not.

The company that owns the property is Bajrangbali786 LLC, and the lawsuit says the company “knowingly tolerates the habitual criminal activity, has failed to make reasonable attempts to abate the activity, and continues to maintain the property as common nuisance,” the Morning News reports.

The City seeks to hold the property owner and neighboring property owners accountable for assistance in maintaining a safe and secure property, according to the District 9 Facebook page.

From July 2017 to July 2018, 36 cited crimes took place at the Texaco, including multiple aggravated robberies, aggravated assaults and drug crimes. In February, one person died and another was critically injured in a shooting.

Police notified Bajrangbali786 LLC of the problems when they bought the property in 2018, but crime still continues. Authorities will maintain escalated patrols in the area and will conduct additional operations in the coming days, more so than in other parts of the Dallas.

“These residents should have a safe and secure business in the community,” Councilwoman Paula Blackmon said on the District 9 Facebook page. “We thank the citizens of the City of Dallas who report crime in this area and encourage them to contact us with any concerns regarding this property and to call 911 when they observe any crime in progress.”
