Last September we filled you in on Woodrow Wilson High School alumnus Greg McCoy‘s rise from the so-called “rougher side of the train tracks” to star high school and collegiate (Texas Christian University/ Rose Bowl) football status.

Now the cornerback is headed for Chicago, where he’ll play for da Bears. Chicago used its seventh-round NFL draft pick on McCoy. Here’s what the Chicago Tribune has to say about our hometown hero:

On the field: He was a playmaker for the Horned Frogs and named defensive MVP of the team’s Poinsettia Bowl victory over Louisiana Tech. Has added value as an All-American return man, averaging more than 30 yards on kickoff returns for three straight seasons with three touchdowns.

Upside: He’s another speedy option in a draft in which Phil Emery focused on athletes. If he can carve out a spot at the bottom of the roster, he could become a special-teams option and backup corner.

Downside: McCoy is a little undersized and didn’t face top competition regularly in college.
