Inspired by Advocate’s January cover story about the major changes coming soon Lakewood Theater, neighbor Katrina Rasmussen reached out to us and shared the above multimedia artwork, which she created. Of the piece, she says:
“I have lived in East Dallas only five years, but that theater has carved a place in my heart. When I first moved to Dallas, I took dance classes at the School of Contemporary Ballet Dallas, nestled right in the theater’s shadow.“Many of my clients live or have lived in Lakewood, and they also love the theater. It truly is the heart of the community; everyone who lives here has personal stories about the theater.“I wanted to share a painting I created for a client who grew up going to the theater. Surely, if a Chipotle and Mi Cocina moving to the neighborhood caused such a stir, the reduction of the Lakewood Theater to an empty facade housing retail and restaurants should inspire people to act.”
