It’s basically Halloween, so we can start thinking about Christmas, right? We all need a little extra joy this year, which is why Casa Linda neighbors are forging ahead with their annual holiday display, Casa Linda Lights.
On Dec. 5 and 6, luminaries will line every street in the Casa Linda Estates neighborhood. The event typically features 8,000 lights, but this year’s iteration will be scaled down to 1,500 lights because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Neighbors who wish to participate can claim a block on SignUpGenius, pick up their free luminaries and display them throughout the neighborhood. Pickup times will be staggered for health and safety purposes.
“We won’t have a holiday party, but we’re encouraging people to get out and walk or take a bike ride those nights,” organizer Kristen Boothe said. “We hope people can have fun with their own team or family.”
Along with lighting up the streets, the neighborhood association collects contributions to donate to Guns & Hoses, which supports the families of fallen police officers and firefighters, and White Rock Center of Hope. The center provides food, clothing, financial assistance and transportation assistance to families in need.
The group has raised $5,000-$7,000 in previous years and would like to maintain that level of giving.
“We still want to maintain the innate spirit of event,” Boothe said. “We can still accomplish that.”
