Cafe Hunan is now serving lunch and dinner at 5600 SMU Boulevard, the restaurant announced on its Facebook page.

It was started by Mark Carey, who owned Hunan Express in Uptown, the Dallas Morning News reported. Dallas chef Dean Fearing was a fan of Hunan Express, according to the News, and one of his favorite dishes, Mongolian beef, is on the menu at Cafe Hunan.

Here’s the restaurant’s origin story, according to Cafe Hunan:

“Twenty-five years ago, two friends, Kevin and Mark, were looking for quality Chinese food for delivery in the Uptown area. They tried everything from soggy, oily rice to over-cooked dark-meat chicken dishes. Nothing was worth ordering again. Rather than sit around and complain, they decided to create their own restaurant, hence Cafe Hunan.”

Diners can choose from a variety of chicken, pork, beef and seafood dishes, and no MSG is added. There’s also salads and soups such as wonton and egg-drop soup. And the restaurant offers Hunan specialities like orange beef, General Chow chicken, happy family, sesame chicken and more. Plus, there are rice and noodle options.

The restaurant is open near Torchy’s Tacos at SMU Boulevard and Worcola Street. Its hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 5-10 p.m. Sunday.
