Unlike the usual smash-and-grabs that constitute most petty crime in the neighborhood, two burglars who hit Lower Greenville last month seem more like pros with their unusual tactics.

In one incident, a burglar shut off power to the house before breaking in, said Darren Dattalo of the Lower Greenville Neighborhood Association Crime Watch.

In the second incident, an intruder used a sledgehammer to knock off a doorknob on the front door, he said. The person also unscrewed a light bulb on the porch before an alarm went off and scared the individual away.

“Bringing tools to the scene is another mark of a pro, not an amateur,” Dattalo said. “Please be vigilant about setting your alarms and locking your doors.”
