The acclaimed smash burger brand last amended its hours to open seven days a week with the addition of Tuesday nights following July 4. Now, the Old Lake Highlands eatery will serve its signature burgers for lunch every day of the week.

Beginning on Aug. 11, Burger Schmurger will open its doors for lunch at 11 a.m. seven days a week, whereas it had previously opened at 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

The Lake Highlands resident who runs Burger Schmurger, Dave Culwell, and his team are typically in the restaurant during lunchtime hours on weekdays for prep work or administrative tasks. Despite clearly displayed hours on the front door, plenty of would-be customers still try their luck, he said.

“We’re there doing all of that, and while we’re there, we get people pulling our locked door all through lunch,” Culwell said.

Since opening near El Vecino on Buckner Boulevard in May, Culwell’s first brick and mortar has been packed with neighbors wanting to try what The Dallas Morning News has hailed as “the best burger in Dallas.” In a Lake Highlands Advocate feature from this month’s food issue, he estimated that his restaurant goes through 1,000 pounds of beef and 500 pounds of sweet onions a week.

High foot traffic has resulted in long wait times, especially during peak weekend hours. To help lunchtime customers get back to the office quickly, Burger Schmuger will offer a special lunch combo for $15 Monday-Friday. It comes with the brand’s signature “schmurger,” fries and a drink. With no substitutions available, the combo will allow kitchen staff to quickly drop and prepare burgers en masse for those in a rush, as opposed to preparing specialty items to order.

“The tagline is, ‘Lunch so fast … your boss will think you skipped it,’” Culwell said.

The regular menu will also be available during weekday lunchtime hours. This month, Burger Schmurger’s monthly special is the “Sicario” burger, which comes with chorizo, Oaxaca cheese, pico de gallo, avocado, jalapenos and lime aioli.

At the bar, happy hour deals will be available during weekday lunch hours.

Having previously described his vision for the concept as a “neighborhood burger bar,” Culwell also said he is looking to further engage with the community through partnering with organizations from local high schools.

Burger Schmurger is located at 718 N Buckner Blvd.
