Deep Vellum is celebrating its 10th year in operation, while the Wild Detectives is turning nine.

The party is described by the Wild Detectives as a “full day event with mind blowing literature, afrobeat rhythms, cumbia, hip hop, art vendors, tattoos, book sales and international DJs.”

Starting at 1 p.m. on April 8 at the Wild Detectives store, the event will kick off with a literary workshop before musical acts and DJs begin to preform. The live music will keep the party going until 1 a.m.

Mircea Cărtărescu, described by The New Yorker as “one of Romania’s leading avant-garde writers,” and translator San Cotter will discuss the process of writing and translating the novel Solenoid.

A tattooing station set up inside of the shop will offer bookish themed hand-poked tattoos.

And the usual bar offerings and book selection will be on sale, with the added bonus of the Wild Detectives’ publishing company being onsite with “special offers and discounts.”

The party is free, but the bookstore is asking for those interested to RSVP for the event.
