This week, from Friday, Dec. 13 to Sunday, Dec. 15, the BMW Dallas Marathon Festival will be taking place. Established in 1971, the marathon has become Dallas’ largest and Texas’ longest running marathon. This sizable marathon brings with it road closures. Find out which roads will be closed for the race in our neighborhood.
This weekend’s festivities will include a full marathon, half marathon, relay races and other race-related activities. Broken up into two days, the 5K and the EIGHT K will be Saturday, Dec. 14 and the BMW Marathon will be on Sunday, Dec. 15.
Saturday’s road closures in our neighborhood include: Crowdus Street, Commerce Street and Canton Street. Individuals traveling through the area must enter and exit before 8:20 a.m. and after 9:25 a.m. — no entries or exits will occur from 8:20 a.m. to 9:25 a.m.
Sunday’s road closures in our neighborhood include: portions of Ross Avenue, Greenville Avenue and Monticello Avenue — from 8:05 a.m. to 2:29 p.m. Portions of Richmond Avenue and Gaston Avenue will also be closed — beginning at 8:13 a.m. and ending at 2:24 p.m.
Additionally, marathon participants will be running around White Rock Lake on Sunday, leading to road closures on White Rock Road, White Rock Lake Trail, West Lawther Drive, East Lawther Drive, Branchfield Drive, Fisher Road, Dalgreen and Winstead Drive — from 8:23 a.m. to 1:55 p.m.
