The first won by the Friars was in 1968, when the men’s golf team took the state tournament by 26 strokes over Houston St. Thomas.

But the first for women didn’t occur until 1974. That year, the track and field team left San Antonio with a victory. It was the first track and field team from Bishop Lynch to win a state title and the sixth state championship for a Bishop Lynch team.

Carol Janosek won the triple and long jumps. Jane Alves won the 800-meter with a time of 2 minutes, 25 seconds. And the 800-meter relay team of Janosek, Alves, Lisa Miller and Nancy Harwood also took first place.
