Sixteen Woodrow Wilson High School students were among 85 Dallas ISD seniors who received grants from the 2019 State Fair of Texas Scholarship Program.

Seniors awarded the Pete Schenkel Scholarship got $6,000 grants, which can be renewed each semester. Recipients must attend a university or trade school in Texas, enroll in 12 hours and score a 3.0 cumulative GPA most semesters.

The Woodrow recipients are: Jonathan Abdo, Kayleigh Allen-Kettle, Victoria Casas, Trinity Forte, Annette Gallegos, Jackson Hansen, John Harrell, Olivia Hudgens, Kendyl Loper, Rachel Manak, Bianca Rivadeneria, Demi Robbins, Mariela Rodriguez, Dominique Salmeron, Nataly Segura and Tuesdae Watson.

Scholarships totaling nearly $1.25 million were awarded Thursday at the Big Tex Scholarship Awards Luncheon in Fair Park. Guests heard from Fox 4 anchor and reporter Brandon Todd and Dallas Fire-Rescue Chief Dominique Artis.

The State Fair of Texas Scholarship Program began in 1992 as a way to recognize and reward local graduates on their way to college.
