The fair announced its return in a release June 2.

The 2021 festivities will be the first in two years after the fair was canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Changes brought on by the pandemic spurred this year’s art theme, according to the release, and will focus on being a place to be together after so much time apart.

“This year’s commemorative theme art encompasses the foundation of what the Fair is all about – being together,” said State Fair of Texas president Mitchell Glieber in the release. “None of us could have predicted all that the COVID-19 pandemic would bring with it, but we feel so grateful to carry on the State Fair’s 135-year history and welcome everyone back with a warm, ‘Howdy, Folks!,’ this year.”

The fair’s 24-day return from Sept. 24-Oct. 17 will include new foods, cars and trucks, art and activities centered around the 2021 theme.

More information on ticketing and vendors will become available in the coming months. Season passes for the fair are on sale now at www.bigtex.com/buy-tickets-new.

The fair will follow any applicable guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the time of events, as well as any guidelines from local, state and federal bodies, per the release. Information on COVID-19 precautions by the fair can be found here.
