Nineteen Lakewood/East Dallas residents and organizations will be honored along with almost 200 others at the 19th Annual Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Awards on April 12 at noon. The annual luncheon celebrates volunteerism and honors outstanding efforts on behalf of the city’s many nonprofit agencies.
“Volunteers are truly the heart of this community,” says Julie Thomas, executive director of the Volunteer Center. “These awards showcase the efforts of the grassroots volunteers who share their time and dedication with those who need their help.”
Neighborhood nominees are: Fidelity Investments, Spence Middle School; Marlin Flores, Cesar Chavez Learning Center; Adele Ichilian, AIDS Interfaith Network; Multiple Careers Magnet Center/DISD, Family Gateway, Inc.; Notre Dame of Dallas School, Texas Youth Commission; Volunteer Mediators at Dispute Mediation Service, Dispute Mediation Services, Inc.; Liz Acuna, St. Vincent Center; Lois Bacon, Legal Services of North Texas; La Madeline, Inc, Meals on Wheels/VNA; Dorothy Crouch, Juliette Fowler Homes, Inc.; John Isaacson, Family Getaway, Inc.; Erich Nagler, Family Gateway, Inc.; Pat Nagler, Family Gateway, Inc.; Betty Pettigrew, Family Outreach of East Dallas, Inc.; Family Outreach of East Dallas Volunteers, Family Outreach of East Dallas, Inc.; Robert Hagle, Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas; William McDonald, Dallas County Juvenile Department; White Rock Center of Hope Volunteers, White Rock Center of Hope; and Larry Hanson, Quintalla Middle School.
More than 1300 guests are expected to attend this inspiring event to be held at the Hyatt Regency Dallas. Nine of the nominees from various categories will be presented with crystal awards; Ramona Logan and Brad Wright from Channel 5 will present videos featuring the winners’ volunteer contributions.
