So today I received my Dallas Historical Society e-newsletter, which included an invite to a program called, “The Alamo and Beyond: A Collector’s Journey,” with special guest and author, Phil Collins …

Double take.

Oh, that’s cute. The Alamo-stuff collector guy has the same name as the British progressive rock god and Genesis frontman Phil Collins. Then I see the accompanying photo.

Phil Collins

Yes, that is the same guy who saw that other guy drowning and would not lend a hand.

Well, obviously I should read more pop culture blogs.

Anyway, the English singer songwriter Rock and Roll Hall of Famer who was appointed as a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order in 1994 happens to have one of the largest collections of Alamo-related artifacts in the world, and State House Press has just published his aforementioned book.

His appearance is set for Saturday, May 12 at 6 p.m. at the Hall of State at Fair Park. Tickets start at $35 for Historical Society members and are $50-$150 for non members. You can buy tickets here.

Also, City Manager Mary Suhm will speak at the annual membership meeting luncheon May 17.
