This morning, all breakfast tacos are free at Torchy’s Tacos’ new location in Casa Linda at 9440 Garland. Drop by Wednesday, Dec. 5 from 7-10 a.m. and tacos are on the house. Anyone who drops by during business hours today gets entered in a raffle to win free tacos all year. If last night is any indication, be prepared for a long line of taco lovers.

The above slideshow photos are from the grand opening party where neighbors and fans all received a free dinner–appetizer and drinks included–if they waited out the line.

Torchy’s Tacos transformed the former Souper Salad location into a vibrant spot. There’s a graffitied brick wall on the outdoor patio and glass garage doors that can be opened for a nice breeze or closed in cold weather. Inside, walls are dotted with art including Dalí’s work and versions of Torchy’s signature baby devil.

As for the food, it’s definitely worth a wait. The green chile queso ($4.95) was my favorite and unlike any I’ve had before. The tacos ($3.25-$4.75) are double-tortilla’d and full enough to easily (though messily) be split into two. And the little chilies on the menu next to the Lorena drink ($7.50) are there for a reason. The habanero-infused tequila mixed with lime juice and grapefruit soda has a kick.

“I feel like this location is helping us plant our roots in Dallas, especially because this is such an old neighborhood and so established,” says founder and chef Michael Rypka, whose wife is from Dallas and used to visit the Casa Linda shopping center.

This is Torchy’s fourth location in Dallas and 13th in the state. The eatery seems to be rapidly expanding: another spot opens in two weeks in Fort Worth. Torchy’s began six years ago with a food truck in Austin. The original three tacos are still on the menu.
