The Dallas Northeast Chamber of Commerce has designated five neighborhood agencies as beneficiaries for its annual Christmas gift-giving drive.

By working with specific agencies, the Chamber will more easily be able to get gifts to those in need, says committee chairwoman Joanne Hoppe. All donations will be given to individuals in our area.

Donations – which should be unwrapped – can be dropped off at Tom Thumb at Mockingbird and Abrams, Minyard’s at Gaston and Abrams, the White Rock Athletic Club at 718 N. Buckner, Target at Medallion Center, and Glo Cleaners at 2117 Abrams. Donations also can be dropped off at the Papa John’s located at 6364 Gaston, Casa Linda at 11419 Garland and 4127 Greenville. Those making a donation at the Papa John’s locations will be eligible to purchase a large, one-topping pizza for carry-out at $4.99.

The agencies and their needs are as follows:

The Wilkinson Center has requested non-perishable food items, school supplies, toys and clothing for job placement.

The Dallas County Juvenile Foster Home has requested materials for 41 children ages 10-17 in our area, including nail polish, earrings, CDs, sweatshirts, art supplies, basketballs and footballs.

The Vogel Alcove needs strollers, diapers, baby food, blankets and gently-used children’s clothes.

Some neighborhood businesses are helping by filling specific needs. At the Maddox Shop, for one, you will find a list of undergarments (with measurements) for items that will be donated to the elderly women helped by the Brady Center. The Maddox Shop, in the Casa Linda center at Garland Road and Buckner, will give a 20 percent discount on items purchased for donations.

At the Enchanted Forest children’s bookstore, a list of books requested for the children helped by the White Rock Center of Hope is available. The store, located at Mockingbird and Abrams, will give a 40 percent discount on books purchased for donation.

Donations are always welcome, however, the agencies would appreciate the material be turned in as early as possible in order for it to be properly sorted and distributed.
