The monthly quesadilla at Blue Goose Cantina is already one of my favorite Tex-Mex indulgences, but now there’s another reason to love it: For the next year, a portion of its proceeds are being donated to Empower Your Future, a nonprofit that helps at-risk kids in Dallas.
Empower Your Future was started by veteran police officer Joe Chatham, known to most neighbors as simply ‘officer Joe.’ I had the pleasure of meeting him about a year ago when I wrote about his son Nick, an up-and-coming neighborhood musician. During that interview, this M Streets neighbor told me that he saw a need for the nonprofit after spending some time in our schools. He shared with me a poignant story about one his son’s junior high classmates who had overdosed. It’s misguided kids like this, he told me, his nonprofit aims to help.
Those monthly quesadillas are featured as daily specials, and all of the Blue Goose Cantina locations are participating in this yearlong promotion.
