A few days ago, we told you the story of Toby, an animal in need of help who found a few Advocate staffers with open hearts. Maybe this happens to you? You’re walking down the block or driving and see an animal, not necessarily a stray, who looks like they need the help of a human. But what do you do?
If the animal is loose, call 311. Let them know you have seen a loose animal. They will send someone out from the city shelter within roughly an hour. You need to be able to tell them approximately where the animal is currently.
If the animal is confined, call the SPCA ambulance at 214.651.7387. An SPCA representative will arrive within an hour and transport the animal to a veterinarian. Please use caution when confining the animal and make sure it has plenty of ventilated air, room to move and water.
As a side note, and while we’re already tugging at your heart strings, there is a rise of email scams asking people to donate money for a coworker’s pet in need or to help adopt a dog. These are usually forwarded and show pictures of black lab puppies.
