When Dick Clements left the Army in 1955, he joined his older brother John in the real estate business.

Forty years later, Clements Realtors, with its corporate office at 6500 E. Mockingbird Lane and another office in east Texas, is still a family run, neighborhood realty office.

His wife Chloie works in the Mockingbird office as administrative assistant, and his daughter Sharon is the company’s financial officer.

Clements raised his family in East Dallas, the area where he does the majority of his business.

“The sun rises in East Dallas,” Clements says. “You find a camaraderie among the people.”

Clements moved to the neighborhood at the age of 5 and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951.

His parents died while he was a teenager, and his brother, who died last year, raised him, he says.

Clements’ second daughter, Cindy Hallmark, also lives in the neighborhood with her two children – Hayden, who is 21 months old, and 10-year-old Camden, who attends Stonewall Jackson Elementary.

Clements has been a member of several community organizations, including the PTAs at Victor H. Hexter Elementary and Robert T. Hill Middle School. He served as president of both PTAs when his daughters were in school.

He is currently a member of the East Dallas and the Lakewood chambers of commerce and the Greater Dallas Association of Realtors. On the Lakewood Chamber, he serves as vice president of membership.

Clements is also a member and past chairman of the Fellowship of Deacons for the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

“You name it, I’ve done it,” he says.

On July 4 each year, Clements Realtors decorates the Lakewood area with flags. The first year the company distributed flags, only 1,500 were put in people’s yards. That number has grown over the years and is now at 6,000, Clements says.

“Every year, people call us from other neighborhoods and ask if they can have flags,” Clements says.

“We (Clements Realtors) have always taken an active part in the community. I feel it’s our responsibility.”
