  • HG Sply Co. is taking over Greenville. We’ve been hearing rumors for a while about the possibility of HG Sply opening an old-fashioned soda fountain next door to the brand new gym, Social Mechanics, where Public House used to be. Culture Map just posted this story, which gives a little sneak peek into the concept. Expect more information to come on this.
  • In September, we reported that the City of Dallas’ Office of Cultural Affairs was embarking upon a $140,000 project to preserve Trinity Lutheran’s stained-glass windows built by Dallas artist Octavio Medellin. If they hadn’t, the windows would have been lost when the church was torn down in October.   Neighbor Craig Reynolds, the architect on the new YMCA building taking the place of Trinity Lutheran church, has been working to preserve the glass, and he sent us this online gallery of the various pieces they’ve collected.
  • The Dallas Observer reported that Aca Las Tortas is now open in East Dallas.
  • Dallas Business Journal reported on Tuesday that “Dallas-based apartment developer and owner Mill Creek Residential, along with AEW Capital Management L.P., has purchased Lakewood on the Trail in a joint venture for an undisclosed sum.”
  • You can meet Dallas Mavericks basketball player Shane Larkin Saturday, March 8, from 2-3 p.m. at Whataburger, 11721 E. Northwest Highway (in front of the Fry’s near Garland Road). The events last from 1-3 p.m. The Mavs dancers, the team’s two mascots and the jumbo-sized Mavs ManiAACs dancers also will be there, with the Mavs promising to give away tickets and autographed prizes every 15 minutes. You can also register to participate in Whataburger Flying Fries promotion that the Mavs stage during home games.
