It came to her last winter while running laps around the track at Jesuit College Preparatory School in 20-degree weather. “I thought, ‘You know, there has to be a better way to do this,’” says Lakewood resident Jovone Kordobon. For years, she has made the rounds on the Dallas fitness circuit teaching all types of classes, most recently climbing onto the boot camp bandwagon. The intense military-style workout moves from one exercise to another without breaks, going straight from push-ups to squats to crunches to the next round of cardio or strength training. A big open field with bleachers is a great setting for such a workout, Kordobon says — when the weather is nice. In Dallas, “everybody and their grandmother holds an outdoor boot camp,” she says, so Kordobon decided to be the first to move the workout indoors. She says her clients get the same results inside as they would outside. On a recent morning, when breath was visible in the crisp, winter air, Kordobon was indoors barking orders to people running treadmills, spinning on bikes and lifting free weights. They appeared to be suffering, but at least they weren’t cold.
