Wilkinson Center is encouraging community members to help fight child food insecurity through its annual Stock Up for Summer campaign, which aims to provide meals and pantry supplies for children throughout the summer break.
This campaign, which began in 2021, seeks to stock Wilkinson Center’s food pantry with kid-friendly food at a time when many children lose access to school meal programs. This year, the organization is aiming to provide assistance to 6,000 children across North Texas.
According to a press release from the center, this year’s campaign goals include raising $200,000, providing 208,000 nutritious meals and generating 2,500 volunteer hours by Aug. 31.
North Texas ranks third in the nation for child food insecurity, according to Wilkinson Center, and one in four children face uncertain access to meals.
“Our Stock Up for Summer campaign last year reached historic levels, allowing us to exceed our distribution goals and provide a vital lifeline to thousands of local families. However, as we look to summer of 2026, the demands for our services remain at an all-time high,” said Daley Ryan, executive director of Wilkinson Center, in the press release. “The community’s support of this year’s campaign ensures our food pantry remains fully stocked with nutritious, kid-friendly essentials during the long school break and provides the stability that our families deserve.”
Wilkinson Center’s Stock Up for Summer event is supported by The Dallas Morning News Charities, IICF, Kroger, The Hoglund Foundation, Atmos Energy, Lone Star Benefits, H-E-B, and Contractors and Closers & Connections.
Community members can support the Stock Up for Summer campaign by hosting a food drive, volunteering at Wilkinson Center’s Food Pantry or by making a donation.
