In Texas, it’s a tradition to shop for back-to-school clothes and supplies on the annual tax-free weekend, which will take place this year Aug. 8-10. The Shops at Park Lane, just north of Loop 12, are sweetening the deal with family-friendly events.
Activities will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-10 on the green space between Starbucks and CAVA on Park Lane North. On Saturday, there will be craft stations open by Crafty Party Dallas, and on Sunday, My Festi Goodies will host sensory play activities, which are designed to help young children learn and be creative. Both days will include music and treats from Kona Ice.
Also, you can take a picture with the “Booked & Busy” mural by Dallas artist Ariana Lee Creative and take home some free back-to-school themed coloring pages.
Tax-free weekend applies to Texas stores as well as online or catalog retailers doing business here, according to the Texas Comptroller’s website. Most clothing items, shoes, school supplies and backpacks sold for under $100 qualify for the discount. For more information about Tax-free weekend, click here.
In addition, Mayor Pro Tem Jesse Moreno of City Council District 2 is hosting a “splash bash” from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 at Old East Dallas Work Yard Park near Munger Place. This event includes refreshments, entertainment and free school supplies for District 2 residents (while supplies last). You just have to register to attend, which you can do here.
