Skella! is a front yard display with a daily-changing rotation of skeleton art in celebration of Halloween.
The yard is the creation of Ella StClair, a Lakewood neighbor in Junius Heights and retired process control designer.
One skeleton is dressed up for laughs in a variety of costumes and positions. One day it’s dressed in a dog costume with a skull peeking out from between a pair of droopy ears. Another day, the skeleton is in a jack-in-the-box complete with jester’s hat.
“The skeleton has been part of porch decorations for a number of years,” StClair says. “But I usually dress her in a little black lace dress, wire a wine glass into one hand and decorate her with Mardi Gras beads.”
StClair loves her neighborhood and wanted to create something to entertain her neighbors. Due to the ongoing pandemic, she wanted something that can be enjoyed from a safe distance and still get neighbors and passerby in the Halloween spirit.
StClair’s usual Halloween decorations consist of spider webs, spiders and small mummy skeletons. She also credits Dia de los Muertos as a background theme for her decorations.
She explains the reason she changes her current skeleton display so often is to keep it fresh.
“This year, I decided to create a skeleton diorama and change it every day to keep it fresh,” StClair says.
