The latest TEA ratings for schools across Texas came out last week, and East Dallas’s public schools have much to celebrate. Both Woodrow Wilson High School and Bryan Adams High School earned all seven distinctions, with several of the Bryan Adams feeder pattern’s elementary schools earning all distinctions as well.
Schools are evaluated in English, Science, Math and Social studies based on STAAR scores, as well as academic growth compared to other similar students, postsecondary readiness and how well the school closes achievement gaps relative to other students of similar ethnic and economic backgrounds.
Schools received an overall score out of 100 in addition to earning distinctions. Woodrow’s overall score was 85, while Bryan Adams pulled in an 80. The best overall score was Lakewood Elementary with 96, though they only earned 3 of 6 distinctions. Stonewall Jackson Elementary (now Mockingbird) earned 5 distinctions on the way to a 95 score.
On the other side of the lake, Reinhardt, Sanger, Casa View and Hexter Elementary schools earned all six distinctions.
As a part of TEA’s new rating system, districts received an overall letter grade; Dallas ISD received a B. In the future, schools will receive an individual letter grade.
