Woodrow Wilson High School students are taking a beloved classic and making it their own for the school’s 60th annual musical.

This year students will be performing “Seussical the Musical” for their spring production, an event that has become a highlight for the community.

The musical, which opened on Broadway in 2000, follows the beloved and well-known characters from a mix of Dr. Seuss books, from “Horton of Horton Hears a Who!” to the cat of the “Cat in the Hat.” The storyline follows the loveable Horton as he tries to protect the Whos living on a clover, one of which is Jojo, a misfit Who.

The musical is a rich tradition at Woodrow — read more about its history in this retrospective we penned back in 2007.

Before “Seussical the Musical” comes to the school, the high schoolers will be celebrating 60 years of Woodrow musicals by putting on their fall production: A Musical Revue of Rodgers and Hammerstein. The multi-generational event will include current and past Woodrow performers to sing songs from famous musicals, including “Oklahoma!,” “South Pacific” and “The Sound of Music.”

The fall performance will take place at 2 p.m., Nov. 6, at the Woodrow Wilson High School auditorium.
