Neighbors who live near Mockingbird Elementary are eligible to receive one of 500 free trees that the Texas Trees Foundation is giving away next month.

Texas Trees Foundation is donating the trees to residents who live within 1 mile of four Dallas elementary schools that do not have a park within a 20-minute walk. In addition to Mockingbird Elementary, the foundation will give trees to community members who live near Anson Jones, Cowart and Medrano elementary schools.

At these campuses, Texas Trees Foundation will build a Cool School Neighborhood Park with new playground equipment, walking trails, benches and up to 100 additional trees.

The trees will need to be planted in the right-of-way in front of neighbors’ homes. The trees will enhance the neighborhood by providing shade, reducing heating and cooling costs and beautifying the area.

Anyone who wants a tree must register on the Texas Trees Foundation website. Recipients can pick up their tree April 10.
