At least two people were taken to a hospital early Sunday after a driver who appeared intoxicated crashed in the M Streets, authorities said.

Police responded at about 1:30 a.m. to the 3900 block of McMillan Avenue. Witnesses told officers that the suspected drunk driver attempted to pass their vehicle. While doing so, he hit an oncoming vehicle, police spokesman Carlos Almeida said.

District 14 Councilman David Blewett characterized the crash as a street racing incident and said the driver accused of being drunk flipped his car.

The driver, who has not been identified, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and taken to an area hospital.

A female passenger in the vehicle was also taken to a local hospital in unknown condition. In a video posted on Nextdoor, the DWI suspect said the passenger is his sister. A police report identifies her as Alexa Cordozo.

The case is under investigation, and police did not provide any more information.
