Are you interested in renting a $13,910-per-month apartment with a view of White Rock Lake?
That’s what the three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath penthouse unit will set you back at The Drake, an 85-unit apartment complex just finishing construction at 7450 Coronado Ave. The Drake’s seven-story structure is built over a three-story parking garage, two floors of which are below grade.
Developed by Northfield Development and managed by Pinnacle, The Drake is leasing one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Units range from an 893-square-foot one bedroom to the 3,301-square-foot penthouse on the top floor. Rents start at $2,350 per month for the smallest one bedroom.
The Drake’s website touts resident amenities that include a pet spa, dog park, swimming pool, fitness center, yoga room and a community kitchen with a “conversation bar.” The website also mentions a “secret” Japanese garden somewhere on the property.
Perhaps because it was originally marketed as a for-sale condominium project, The Drake is more architecturally interesting than many of its contemporaries. The building is less boxy with breaks in the horizontal and vertical lines that draw curious eyes.
Residents leasing units on the top floors will have unique views of White Rock Lake. But the backyard view for residents of Highland on the Creek, a single-family subdivision between Highland Road and White Rock Creek, is changed by The Drake.
“As an East Dallas lifer, I wasn’t excited about seeing a seven-story apartment complex rising above the tree tops on White Rock Creek,” says Highland on the Creek resident Jenni Tittle. “The blue neon light outlining the building is not in keeping with the charm of the neighborhood.”
There is some good news for other neighbors who live on Coronado Avenue, which took a beating during The Drake’s construction. Now that the project is nearly complete, a portion of Coronado will be repaved, with the work scheduled to begin in December.
