The Lakewood Fourth of July parade.

The 2020 Lakewood Fourth of July parade is canceled because of public health concerns, but the committee is working on ways to celebrate virtually while neighbors continue social distancing.

“It is with a heavy heart that I am officially announcing that there will NOT be a Fourth of July parade this year,” according to a Facebook post.

Themed T-shirts and buttons will still be available, but details about how to purchase them have not yet been released.

Organizers are asking neighbors who would have financially supported the parade to donate those funds to the Wilkinson Center, an East Dallas agency that provides food, continuing education classes and more to families in need.

The Lakewood Fourth of July parade will match up to $5,000 in donations to the Wilkinson Center when neighbors mention the parade.

Check back with the Advocate for details on how to donate, buy merchandise or take part in the virtual celebration.
