Forest Hills resident and state Rep. Eric Johnson defeated Dallas City Council member Scott Griggs in a runoff election Saturday to become the city’s new mayor.

Out of 74,106 ballots cast, the Dallas Democrat received 41,208 votes, about 56 percent, compared to Griggs’ 32,898 votes, about 44 percent.

Johnson tweeted his enthusiasm Sunday, saying, “I am ready to get to work for you.”

On Saturday, Johnson reminded individuals of his agenda, which includes improving public safety, bringing more jobs to Dallas and cleaning up City Hall.
