Happy 20th anniversary, Ferguson Road Initiative

The Ferguson Road Initiative celebrates its 20th anniversary with a breakfast Friday, Nov 10, 9-11 a.m. at Owenwood Farm & Neighbor Space., 1451 John West Road. Vikki J. Martin, executive director of the Ferguson Road Initiative, reports that the organization will break ground on a new park on Highland Road Saturday, Dec. 1, 10 a.m. According to the website, FRI has worked to address crime, urban blight, lack of economic development and poor public school student performance. Crime has been successfully reduced through partnerships with local law enforcement agencies and 35 neighborhoods, according to the website. “The mission of the Ferguson Road Initiative is to transform Far East Dallas into a safe, beautiful, prosperous and proud community by inspiring hope and working together to achieve a shared vision,” Martin told The Dallas Morning News in 2014.
