Lakewood’s alleged ‘porch pirate’ will be charged with a felony

The Dallas District Attorney charged the alleged package pilferer with felony theft, according to a press release. Neighborhood security cameras captured Kelli Russell taking packages in January. Police found about $2500 worth of packages in her apartment.

After posting bail, Russell turned herself into authorities on Wednesday and is now outfitted with an electronic monitoring device. She faces a maximum punishment of two years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

“I want to thank the Dallas Police Department for their hard work,” said DA Faith Johnson. “Once the case is formally received from the Dallas Police Department, my prosecutors will begin their work to ensure that justice is served. When our safety and sense of security in our own homes is threatened, those responsible need to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
