It’s homecoming season at Woodrow Wilson High School and that means mums, crowns and most importantly, the annual parade.

This year the parade is getting a few tweaks that viewers and motorists should be aware of. The parade route will no longer go down Gaston Avenue and will now include La Vista. Woodrow Wilson PTA board member Kippy Clapp said they will also be bringing on more police officers to help with traffic and safety around the area.

In the past, the parade has caused congestion problems with rush hour traffic as the event has traditionally taken place in the evening. Clapp noted the parade is held during this time to work with students’ school schedules.

But traffic aside, the parade has become worth stopping for. The Nov. 3 event will even bring in “Blazing Saddles” actor Burton Gilliam as the parade MC.

Once the parade ends spectators are invited to a pep rally and cookout back at the school.
